The Eveleth Clown Band has been playing at Iron Range events since 1945. Founded by veterans returning from World War II they were initially sponsored by Mesaba Range VFW Post 1172. They are no longer sponsored by the post but their historic bass drum has that original sponsorship painted on it. I met and first photographed Paul (Tucky) at the Gilbert, Minnesota, July Fourth parade in 1986. Here was a striking man in a Playboy outfit complete with fishnet stockings and 6 inch heels. I have been photographing the band ever since. Like most Rangers hearing the band play old familiar tunes such as, There is No Beer in Heaven, or Tequila I smile, laugh and sway to the music. The effect of the band at community events is electric. Although personnel have changed the good time spirit persists.
